Four Lost Heroines

Here are four lost heroines -- remarkable women whose stories you might not find in the general reference books, with links to other women's biography sites.

Notable Women Ancestors

Winner of the Eliki Award for "Outstanding Achievement and Extraordinary Commitment to History, Family, Culture, and Women's Studies" and recommended by The History Channel, this website is a "must see," offering both genealogical and historical information on notable women ancestors.

Quest for Equality

World Book editors have compiled an on-line feature celebrating Women's History Month. Articles in the feature are from the World Book™ Multimedia Encyclopedia and chronicle the rise of the women's movement. Visitors will also find biographies of important women trailblazers and a substantial number of web sites concerning women's history.

Who is Sojourner Truth?

This brand new website is dedicated to the 200th Anniversary Celebration of this woman. Through the writings of Thea Rozetta Lapham and others who are quoted at this site, you can find out more about Sojourner Truth's life and message.

Women of Courage

This website, maintained by the St. Lawrence County, NY Branch of the AAUW, is dedicated to this organization's 1989 publication of the book Women of Courage, Ten North Country Pioneers in Profile.

Women's International Center

On October 6, 1982, at her fiftieth birthday celebration, Gloria Lane, received a telephone call from her physician. He told her she was "officially" diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. With destiny staring her in the face on that fateful night, Gloria made a critical decision. She could give in to her illness, or she could make it work for her. Obviously, she chose vision over the victim mentality. On that day, Women's International Center was founded, whose continuing mission is "To Acknowledge, Honor and Encourage Women." DO NOT MISS THIS SITE!!! (After this month, this link will be listed on A Room of Her Own's "Women's Resources" page.)
