This message is to welcome you to the "BizWomen List" and invite you to join our forum. The BizWomen List is open to all people interested in a free, unmoderated, self-managed list for Women, for Business, for Life. Following, you will find two important messages: the instructions needed for subscribing to this list and the guidelines that have been established for participating in this forum. Please "bookmark" this page and return as often as is necessary when you need help.
1] OVERVIEW:
OVERVIEW: This list is served by a computer program entitled "Post.Office". It is very similar to the widely-used Majordomo mailing list management program. It is designed to handle the routine administration of mailing lists automatically, minimizing the work the list owner needs to do personally.
To join our list, you must send email to bizwomen-request@bizwomen.org with certain specific command words in the BODY of the message. Anything in the "Subject" line is ignored by the computer. (This information is detailed below.)
Post.Office is a computer program, not a person. Please only send messages (commands) in the exact format and per the instructions below. These are the only commands the computer understands.
There are two versions of this list: "Standard" which consists of many individual email messages and "Digest" which accumulates messages posted to the main list and then sends one large email with a group of individual messages usually once or twice a day.
2] TO SUBSCRIBE, JOIN, or RETURN to this list:
3] To UNSUBSCRIBE OR LEAVE this list:
You can subscribe or unsubscribe from either list at any time by using the commands above. Sometimes it's wise to unsubscribe when you're on vacation, for example, to avoid filling your mailbox while you're gone. Or if you subscribe to the Standard list and later decide to try the Digest version, just unsubscribe from the first and subscribe to the second.
4] SENDING MAIL TO THE LIST:
To send a message to all of the members subscribed to this list (and PLEASE NOTE, you must be subscribed to the list to post to the list), send e-mail to "bizwomen@bizwomen.org". This is called "sending mail to the list". Don't send any of the commands described above in the Subscribe and Unsubscribe sections to this e-mail address. The commands will not be processed and your message will be viewed by all list members (embarrassing and fruitless).
If you receive this list in digest form, you must compose and send separate individual e-mails to the list. Do not try to reply and send e-mail if you receive the digest.
5] PROBLEMS:
If you have followed the above instructions exactly, but still have problems subscribing or unsubscribing or posting to this list:
A person will read your email and if your problem is caused by the list server (unlikely), the person will contact the computer's managers. You will probably not receive a personal reply to your email.
This list is self-managed, it has no employees, and is hosted free of charge by LinkAmerica Communications, Inc. as a community service. It is every member's responsibility to manage themselves and to help others cooperatively manage this list.
1] PURPOSE OF THIS LIST:
The bizwomen mailing list is an open, unmoderated forum to network, chat, exchange ideas, and ask for advice about anything and everything related to women in business, products and services for and by women, and other women-oriented issues, with other people from all around the world.
This list is a resource and wonderful way to build community and communicate with women and men in businesses for and by women via e-mail.
2] TOPICS:
When sending a question/comment to the list, please begin the subject line with one of the keywords below. This will allow others to filter out what they don't want to see with their e-mail programs. An example subject line would be: NON-BIZ: NY City Area Tour Guide Info Needed
Please do not post virus warnings, chain letters, urban myths, or requests for e-mails to be sent to charitable organizations/children with brain tumors/etc. There's enough of that going around already.
ALSO NOTE: From time to time, you might see a post titled ADMIN ALERT. These are posts made to the list by the List Administrators which contain information relevant and vital to all members of the list. Please do not ignore these posts.
3] KEYWORDS:
Please use one of these keywords when sending messages to the list. This will allow others to filter out what they don't want to see with their e-mail programs. If you think we could add a keyword, please e-mail the list administrator at: webmaster@getasite.com and we'll seriously consider it.
4] ETIQUETTE/RESTRICTIONS:
Sincerely,
Rachel and Cheryl
