For 15 years, I was employed on the college-level as an Adjunct Instructor of English and Communications while working toward first the completion of my master's degree in English / Technical Writing, and currently, my Ph.D. in English. Such a position has given me valuable experience in the design and implementation of curriculum, the management and training of students of all ages, and the development of effective interpersonal, small group and public speaking skills.
I have also designed, written and edited newsletters for nonprofit agencies, edited and authored two books, one a county centennial history, and one a corporate centennial history, and compiled, composed and secured grants both at the federal and state levels for nonprofit agencies.
As a professional speaker, I have addressed public and professional audiences on topics both academic and nonacademic in the arenas of corporate training and consulting, county speakers' bureaus, and regional and national educational conferences.
Presently, I teach high school English and Journalism and am the advisor of the Gregorian Chant, the school newspaper, at St. Gregory College Preparatory School in Tucson, Arizona.
Since June of 1996, I also have been engaged in the design, development, hosting and marketing of web sites for professionals and corporate agencies. My company is GET-A-SITE Internet Architects located at www.getasite.com. Please stop by and view my handiwork.
My father, a retired Atlantic Richfield chemist, always says, "Stuff expands to fill the available space." He is right. The only problem, though, is that I have more stuff than available space. Among my many trinkets, the following are a few of my favorites:
A treasure is something that comes from the heart, or is given by the heart. I have so much to treasure in my life: memories of childhood days spent horseback riding on my great Uncle's farm . . . camping with the girl scouts . . . collecting sea shells at the beach . . . photographs and poems and letters from the unfolding days of my adolescent and high school years . . . college homecoming ribbons . . . sorority paddles and concert tickets. But what I have most in life to treasure is a loving, supportive family and dear friends, and the thousands of students whose lives have touched mine, and whose futures I have, in some small way, affected.

Sense of Humor? Passion and Zest for Life's Adventures? Curiosity about the Mysteries of the Universe? All these mark my personality. I don't shy away from 100% commitment to any task I undertake if I believe it to be a meaningful, significant and just cause. I am gregarious, aggressive, dedicated, cooperative and to some degree a perfectionist. My outlook on life, as I often tell my students: I am a tempered Idealist. Okay, okay, I confess to having a few "weaknesses" as well. I can be adamant about my opinions at times, and somewhat inflexible (okay, maybe even stubborn), I hate to loose (but if the argument is substantiated, and the rhetoric relevant), I will submit graciously to defeat, and I can, at times, become distracted by too many of the details of a project (so some call it procrastination). However, I'm not afraid of constructive criticism, or having to observe stringent deadlines. In fact, a time table for production keeps me focused and on target for the successful completion of a project. What can I say? After all, I am an Aries and a Thursday's Child who has far to go.
Culture --- I have always been fascinated with the Egyptian culture. I don't know whether it's the appeal of the artistry of their language, or the beauty of their architecture, but if I were to be granted only one wish, I would wish to visit Egypt.
Entertainment --- My television viewing preferences are: late night talk shows (Dave's my man!); classics such as Hogan's Heroes, Gilligan's Island, Mystery Theater, Star Trek, McGyver, Magnum P.I.; contemporary comedies like Ellen, Grace Under Fire, Home Improvement, Wings, and Murphy Brown; contemporary dramas such as Law and Order, Hill Street Blues, NYPD Blues; and the unusual, like Dark Skies, The Pretender, Millennium, The Profiler, X-Files, Unsolved Mysteries, and PSI Factor.
Film --- Give me a romantic comedy any day, PLEASE! Foul Play and Ghost still hold front-runner posts in my book. I also enjoy a good film about intrigue, mystery and espionage - the kind of film that leaves a reader thinking long after the film is over. And they are doubly good if they involve the triumph of the underdog, like the adaptation of Tom Clancy's Clear and Present Danger.
Fine Arts --- In any gallery, I am drawn to the late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century artists: The Impressionists, Cubism and Abstract Expressionism. If I'm in a truly contemplative mood, I'll study the Renaissance artists.
Literature --- My appetite for literature spans all eras and all genres. Some of my favorites: Chaucer and Shakespeare, the Metaphysical Poets (especially Donne), the American Romantics (especially Poe, Hawthorne and Melville), and contemporaries such as Updike, Irving, Atwood, Robbins, and Ludlum.
Music --- My tastes in music run from the eclectic to the sublime. I enjoy the classics, jazz, pop, rock, big band and the blues. I'll take Kenny G any day, but Beethoven and Chopin spark my creative genius.
Performing Arts --- If you want to make my birthday special, take me to the Ballet. I also enjoy the Symphony, and occasionally, the opera, but only if it's comic opera, like Three Penny Opera, Bertold Brecht's adapted of John Gay's sixteenth-century masterpiece, The Beggar's Opera.
Travel --- I've never been to a tropical island (yet). I also want to see London some day, and visit the land of my ancestors, Germany. I travel light if you want to buy the tickets.
